Deer harvest up slightly in 2008 July 2, 2009
Results of the 2008 Deer Hunter Survey conducted by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources indicate that the statewide harvest of deer last season totaled 248,778, an increase of 4 percent over the previous year.

Hilton Head cobia could be state record June 1, 2009
Robby Maroudas remembers seeing a huge cobia about 15 years ago near the R8 marker, but he couldn’t get it to bite.
On May 26, Maroudas saw another huge cobia, this one on the Betsy Ross reef.
The difference? This one was hungry — and that made all the difference in the world.

Legislature changes requirements for saltwater recreational fishing license May 23, 2009
The recent session of the South Carolina General Assembly made changes to the Saltwater Recreational Fishing License effective July 1, 2009. License fees will not change.
The changes will allow better access to information about recreational catch, which will lead to better management of South Carolina’s valuable marine resources.

Huge catfish caught in tailrace below Lake Moultrie May 10, 2009
Mark Bollenburg of Bonneau Beach landed the biggest catfish caught in years on April 9 when he landed a 108.6-pound blue in the Tailrace Canal below Lake Moultrie.

Northern Snakehead caught in Lake Wylie April 23, 2009
An angler fishing the Paw Creek arm of Lake Wylie in Mecklenburg County, N.C., caught a 31-inch northern snakehead on April 19. Lake Wylie is located on the border of North and South Carolina.

Florida officials hook South Carolina fishermen for over-the-limit catches April 1, 2009
On March 13, Friday the 13th proved unlucky for four South Carolina anglers when a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer seized their entire catch of 1,268 freshwater fish. The case is believed to be the largest of its kind ever filed in Polk County by the FWC.
